There is no need to be caught off-guard by the events surrounding the evolving climate crisis
Climate change is one of the most important issues facing our planet today. It is important for everyone to have a good understanding of climate change, its causes, and its effects. This workshop will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the topic. You will learn about the science of climate change, the impacts of climate change, and the current solutions available to us to slow the trajectory we are on.
This workshop is designed to give you the necessary tools to make the necessary changes right now.
By the end of this workshop you will:
Have a basic understanding of earths climate systems
Be able to evaluate solutions to climate change
Understand what informs climate policies
Make informed decisions about mitigation
Make informed decisions about adaptation
Experience an En-ROADS climate simulation
During this exercise you will get to interact with the En-ROADS Climate Simulator, developed by MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative and Climate Interactive which allows you to experiment with approximately 30 climate polices with the goal of keeping global warming below 2ºC. In the process you will gain a deeper understanding of the system dynamics approach to climate solutions, what high and low leverage actions are and understand what is informing global climate policies.

The role of En-ROADS in improving climate literacy
In it’s most recent reporting the IPCC authors make this observation: “Climate literacy and information can accelerate behavioural changes. Educational and information programmes, using the arts, participatory modelling [which is what En-ROADS is] and citizen science can facilitate awareness, heighten risk perception, and influence behaviour,” all of which are necessary as we face the challenges of a progressively heating world. In this conversation with Andrew Jones, Executive Director of Climate Interactive, creators of the En-ROADS simulator we explore how the simulator helps improve an individuals climate literacy.
What previous attendees say…
“The ability to manipulate the En-ROADS simulator was truly eye-opening, particularly with the added expertise and considerations Peter provided throughout the exercise. The entire session was very engaging, interactive and challenged our assumptions.
Peter also did a great job of engaging both the “head” and the “heart” in this training – helping us understand the dynamics from a logic standpoint while also tying it to real-world events and engaging the group around how it impacts them personally. I also loved the final graphic which showed how an individual can make an impact and influence these systems.”
“Peter is a skilled speaker who enabled the group to experience deep insights about climate in a fun and engaging way. I consider myself well informed on climate issues, and there are many things I understand better now than before this session. There’s seriously something for everyone in this workshop.
The tool is great but Peter’s knowledge and presence totally brought the simulation to life. I was impressed by how he drew each individual in and kept the discussion moving at just the right pace – 90 min flew by and I left with a lot to consider. It’s easy to get mired down with this topic and much harder to find hope and momentum; rather than feel glum afterward, I’ve carried with me Peter’s upbeat, action-oriented mindset with neurons firing with ideas for how I can apply my new learnings.”
“As someone who works in the Corporate Responsibility team, I would consider myself to have a slightly higher than average understanding of the immediacy and urgency of climate change and its impacts.
However, I found that this experience really helped me learn a great deal more about the levers with which our institutions must use to remediate the situation. I was able to grasp the complexity and the dire nature of the situation. En Roads was an incredibly helpful tool. Peter’s facilitation style of including all participants and engaging each of us in conversation required me to really lean in and participate which I appreciated..”
Workshop Outline
Current Climate Crisis Snapshot
To lay the groundwork for the workshop you will gain a good understanding regarding the impacts expected on our current emission trajectory. We will look the impacts projected for your area, like expected temperatures, percipitation, water scarcity and fire days to name a few
Climate Model Simulation
Using the En-ROADS climate simulator we will together interact with approximately 30 policies in an attempt to create a scenario that allows us to keep global temperatures below 2ºC. This process is very insightful as it puts you in policy makers shoes and helps you understand what actions we need to take.
Understanding Current Legislation
In this session we will look at current legislation as a guide to understanding what is to be expected globally in the near future. These insights will help you begin to formulate a picture of the regulatory environment you will be operating in.
What You Can Do To Prepare
This will be a practical session where we will creatively explore the options open to you to prepare yourself and your business for regulatory disruption, as well as the impacts from +1.5ºC and more of heating.

More feedback from attendees…
“I loved this workshop! It was a great way to gain “climate literacy” skills in this invaluable, interactive session. Peter is a great host making sure everyone is pro-active and engaged; the custom climate scenario we created was a real eye-opener making sure everyone left the session feeling empowered to make a change! Thank you, Peter!”
“The highlight for me was the interactivity of the simulation and getting the live demonstration of the complexity of the challenge and potential impact of solutions. The experience really illustrated how complex (and totally interlinked) it is!
Peter was a wonderful and engaged virtual facilitator, I really enjoyed the way he delivered and guided the session, maintaining engagement throughout.”
