I'm the founder of FutureWork IQ where I spend my time assisting businesses to improve their climate literacy so as to understand the projected impacts from the expanding climate crisis and how to adapt their workplaces in the face of these impacts.

Very soon we are going to experience one of the largest global adult education events in modern history, driven by the impacts of climate change.

Right now, Climate Literacy is not a priority for large portions of the population as is evidenced by there being a general lack of understanding of what exactly is causing the global heating, what the highest leverage actions are that we can take to mitigate against this spiralling completely out of control and not being able to articulate what the top 5-10 actions are, based on the lastest peer-reviewed reasarch, an individual can take to profoundly impact the emission trajectory we are on.

In a preprint entitled Global warming in the pipeline Dr James Hansen and his 14 co-authors make this observation:

“𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦. 𝘋𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘶𝘨𝘦 𝘨𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘭 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘶𝘱 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘪𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦. 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴.”

And as these consequences begin to be felt in greater frequency they state:

“𝘗𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦.”

I cannot overemphasise how critical it is to immediately take urgent action to improve your climate literacy and set a course to act on the knowledge you acquire.

There are two major tasks ahead:

1) Urgent mitigation action against worsening impacts, and
2) Adaptation action against what is now locked in to the climate system.

How far are you down this path?
