I'm the founder of FutureWork IQ where I spend my time assisting businesses to improve their climate literacy so as to understand the projected impacts from the expanding climate crisis and how to adapt their workplaces in the face of these impacts.

If you have followed me for any length of time you would have heard me speak about looming carbon lockdowns as we race to avert a global catastrophe.

These are beginning to emerge as outlined here and will intensify as the need to act becomes more urgent.

The current record breaking heatwave experienced in parts of the US and Canada with its resultant loss of life, damage to infrastructure and wild fires is a reminder of what we will be dealing with, with increasing frequency in many parts of the globe.

The Bloomberg piece makes this point:

“if the world wants to meet climate goals, the carbon math is brutal. One way or another, society will have to face up to policies that keep a good chunk of fossil fuels in the ground, or pay the price of suffering.”

Carbon Restrictions Are Finally Here to Bend the Emissions Curve

The lesson from all this is pretty simple: Those businesses that are reliant on fossil fuels to generate an income (which is currently almost all businesses) are going to be severely disrupted.

The smart move at this point is to do whatever you can to decouple from fossil fuels before you are painful forced to. Learn from what happened during the pandemic. Similar restrictions are on the horizon.
