I'm the founder of FutureWork IQ where I spend my time assisting businesses to design digital workplaces or “offices in the cloud.” These environments enable companies to allow flexible and remote working for their teams. I also teach the digital literacy, fluency, communication and collaboration skills needed to work in these modern technology-rich workplaces.

Redundant Roles

This morning I have two presentations where I will be discussing this data from the WEF. A couple of things about this:

  1. If your businesses is not experiencing the rise of new roles and the corresponding rise in redundant roles, you have to ask whether the organization is keeping up with the evolution of the workplace and digital transformation in general. It’s a strong indicator whether you are ahead or behind.
  2. Have you had a serious conversation yet with those in your employ who fall in the “redundant roles” category about upskilling or reskilling and what’s about to happen to their job functions?
  3. If you fall in the “redundant roles” category, what is your strategy to get out of that category ASAP?

4 years ago at the WEF Davos event, the then CEO of Accenture made this observation:

“Digital is the main reason just over half of the companies on the Fortune 500 have disappeared since the year 2000.”

Surviving a tsunami of change requires to getting to higher ground!
