I'm the founder of FutureWork IQ where I spend my time assisting businesses to design digital workplaces or “offices in the cloud.” These environments enable companies to allow flexible and remote working for their teams. I also teach the digital literacy, fluency, communication and collaboration skills needed to work in these modern technology-rich workplaces.

This is an excellent piece by Iman Jalali entitled The Future of Work is ‘Remote.’ How You Can Build a Killer Remote Team

In it he discusses three major elements to accomplishing this.

  1. Communication (I loved the idea of creating a communication schedule)
  2. Trust (Hiring the right people is a must!)
  3. Company culture (this is to me is the all important one)

He concludes his piece in this way:

“Remember that every day, working with a remote team is a new experience. You may run into some unique problems — like how to reconcile time zones — that make you look at the team environment differently. You’ll adapt your policies, and think up new ones to account for these unexpected issues.”
