This was the question asked in this HBR piece entitled Is It Time to Let Employees Work from Anywhere?
The answer to this question is of course yes. However, only when these conditions have been met:
A well designed digital workplace that enables flawless communication and collaboration and that prioritizes digital intimacy and presence.
A leadership team that has the ability to “work-out-loud” digitally and fosters a results only work environment culture.
A team that has the digital literacy & fluency to work effectively in a technology rich environment.
