Over on Twitter Tobie Langel asked this:
Online conference are the future. It’s increasingly irresponsible to fly folks across the planet when half of it is on fire and the other half is melting. But the huge value of conference is the “hallway track.” How do we replicate that online?

This is another example of a conversation that will increase in frequency and intensity as we make business carbon neutral. It’s irresponsible not to look at ways to reduce flying. At first this will be voluntary and then forced on business by legislation. (Btw this is in harmony with another conversation that will gather steam – how do we end the office commute?)
I expect to see the rise of online event organizers who master the art of hosting highly interactive events. Currently Zoom, for example, allows for breakout sessions, which when organized well, can definitely replicate “hallway tracks.”
But there is more on the horizon. Recently I attended this VR event.
How would you suggest we replicate “hallway tracks?”
