I'm the founder of FutureWork IQ where I spend my time assisting businesses to improve their climate literacy so as to understand the projected impacts from the expanding climate crisis and how to adapt their workplaces in the face of these impacts.

LinkedIn is the worlds largest business network and as such they have the largest dataset on the world work. Distilling this data has helped them produce something called the Economic Graph which they use to provide governments with insights into Labour markets and rising skills demands amongst others.

LinkedIn’s new CEO, Ryan Roslansky sent this email to LinkedIn staff on his first official day as CEO a few days ago.

In it he highlights 5 mega trends they are seeing based on the data from a 690 million strong business network.

I would like to highlight these here as it may help you to rethink and reimagine your business as we move into the post-covid-19 era.

Here they are:

1️⃣ Interactions and work that were previously done in-person are being done remotely, and virtual communities will play an increasingly important role connecting people professionally and socially

2️⃣ Workforces are becoming more globalized and diverse, as people no longer need to cluster around the same geographic location or time zone

3️⃣ Access to truthful, trusted, timely news and views is becoming mission critical as people and companies navigate paradigm shifts and need to make quick decisions that have lasting impact

4️⃣ The success of virtual learning, virtual selling and virtual events is forever changing what people need to do physically.

5️⃣ Front line workers and those lacking the skills of the future will be displaced and face lasting unemployment/under-employment. Now, more than ever, we need to double down on our skills marketplace efforts to help these workers re-skill and transition to the roles of the future

How ready are you for the new world of work?
