I'm the founder of FutureWork IQ where I spend my time assisting businesses to design digital workplaces or “offices in the cloud.” These environments enable companies to allow flexible and remote working for their teams. I also teach the digital literacy, fluency, communication and collaboration skills needed to work in these modern technology-rich workplaces.

Here is an example of how we should we be thinking when we reopen the economy.

UK coal usage

(Story here: Britain goes coal free as renewables edge out fossil fuels)

So what other structural changes can we make?

On an individual business level could we drive less by making remote working permanent ending needless daily commutes? Could we fly less by meeting online instead? We know research shows that this behaviour during lockdown contributed to a 17% reduction in carbon emissions!

We CAN do these things RIGHT NOW as we turn our attention to the next existential threat – climate change – and our need to decarbonise our economies.
