I'm the founder of FutureWork IQ where I spend my time assisting businesses to design digital workplaces or “offices in the cloud.” These environments enable companies to allow flexible and remote working for their teams. I also teach the digital literacy, fluency, communication and collaboration skills needed to work in these modern technology-rich workplaces.

Remote Meetings

There is one rule when it comes to these hybrid meetings that you simply must live by:

🚩If ONE person has to join the meeting via a video call EVERYONE should join the meeting on a video call, even if they are all in the same building.

So don’t let the co-located team all be in the boardroom and one or two people on a screen. This does not make for an equal meeting experience. The individual/s on screen will need to put in A LOT of extra effort to read the room, taking away from their ability to contribute to the meeting.

So if one person is on a screen, everyone should be on a screen.

So glad that the research now backs this advice.
