I'm the founder of FutureWork IQ where I spend my time assisting businesses to design digital workplaces or “offices in the cloud.” These environments enable companies to allow flexible and remote working for their teams. I also teach the digital literacy, fluency, communication and collaboration skills needed to work in these modern technology-rich workplaces.

Escape velocity

The only way “escape velocity” from a physical office can be achieved is by designing a digital workplace that enables a team to be as effective distributed as they are in-person, with no communication and collaboration barriers, no feelings of isolation, being able to brainstorm and innovate at distance.

Once that is done, the physical office can be decommissioned as the primary communication app, losing it’s “gravitational pull” and the business achieves escape velocity.

Will you achieve “physical-office-escape-velocity” or are you going to simply fall back into old ways of doing things?

(Btw the escape velocity from Earth’s surface is about 11,186 m/s or 40,270 km/h.)
