I'm the founder of FutureWork IQ where I spend my time assisting businesses to improve their climate literacy so as to understand the projected impacts from the expanding climate crisis and how to adapt their workplaces in the face of these impacts.

So this is our trajectory in South Africa.

Every single business leadership team, without exception, is going to need to ask themselves these two fundamental questions:

1) What role are we going to play in ensuring that this heating trend does not spiral completely out of control? (ie what are WE going to do to attempt to keep global warming well below 2°C? — current trajectory 3.6°- 4°C)

The answer to this question is going to be determined by how many fossil fuel touch points you are going to aggressively decouple from.

2) How are we going to function in a physical environment impacted by this trajectory?

The first step in answering this question is understanding the business risks this
heating creates. Broadly speaking there are threats to:

– Buildings and infrastructure
– Energy supply & infrastructure
– Agriculture & forestry
– Insurance premiums
– Tourism

How far down the road are you with your business continuity plans in the face of these climate crisis realities?
