I'm the founder of FutureWork IQ where I spend my time assisting businesses to design digital workplaces or “offices in the cloud.” These environments enable companies to allow flexible and remote working for their teams. I also teach the digital literacy, fluency, communication and collaboration skills needed to work in these modern technology-rich workplaces.

Imagine yourself putting on a pair of “carbon emission” glasses. The glasses enable you to see everything in terms of carbon emissions — i.e. what fossil fuels are being burnt during this activity or in the creation of what I am looking at?

carbon lenses

Now with your lenses on take a few minutes to scroll through your social feeds. What do you see? How much fossil fuels are being burnt? Would there be a way to decouple the burning of fossil fuels from the activities you see displayed in your feed? How would that happen?

Here is what I found when I did this:

  1. Almost everything we do as businesses and professionals is linked to the burning of fossil fuels.
  2. Given the climate emergency we are way WAY off track in curbing emission. For the most part its business as usual. the climate
  3. Sooo much needs to change! What’s it going to take?
  4. There are things that we can immediately do with current technology to start curbing emissions. .
