I'm the founder of FutureWork IQ where I spend my time assisting businesses to design digital workplaces or “offices in the cloud.” These environments enable companies to allow flexible and remote working for their teams. I also teach the digital literacy, fluency, communication and collaboration skills needed to work in these modern technology-rich workplaces.

One of the things that fascinate me is the work being done in Social VR especially with a concept called presence.

As more and more teams work remotely and the need for virtual meetings grows, VR is beginning to show promise as a way to meet with colleagues who are remote.

Here is an example of what is now possible.

And this is just the start! One of the biggest technical challenges in creating presence in VR is how you are represented, ie your avatar. I think with the rapid advancement in this tech your physical presence will soon be able to be digitized and rendered in VR making it very realistic – this is known as having a Photorealistic Avatar.

These VR experiences are beginning to replicate what physical meetings are like and it’s awesome!
