Starting in 2024 emissions must fall by 5.3% per year to limit heating to below 2ºC (8.7% for below 1.5ºC)

We have never done this before.

Ever.

The closest we have come was during covid when emissions fell by 4.7% during the 2019/2020 period.

Here is a look at the sector emissions for this period.

Temporary reduction in daily global CO2 emissions during the COVID-19 forced confinement

As you can see both surface transport and aviation were big contributors to the 4.7% decline.

Can we replicate these emission reductions in 2024?

Yes we can, by adopting different ways of moving around!

Here are the suggestions:

  • Walk to work if you can
  • Cycle to work if you can
  • Use public transport more
  • Drive less
  • Fly less
  • Meet online more
  • Work from home 3 days per week

We have the solutions we just need to use them!
